Intersection 82 and 219 to Receive Double Stop Signs Thanks to State Representative Centreville Press, August 9, 2006 Local officials and the legislative delegation have been working together to improve the traffic safety conditions on Highway 82 in Bibb County. The group gathered and discussed the need for alterations to this intersection, which has recently experienced an accident resulting in a fatality. Bibb County Commissioners Charles Beasley, Ricky Hubbard, and Al Green along with Centreville Mayor Dalton Murphy met with State Representative Cam Ward, as well as representatives from the Alabama Department of Transportation to discuss the intersection of State Highways 82 and 219. Among several of the options discussed, local officials believed the best option to be a stop light. However, the State DOT officials stated that the historical data would not support that option. After much dialogue, the State DOT did resolve to incorporate double stop signs, along with painted stop bars in the median. The local officials would like to thank Ward and the representatives from the State Department of Transportation for their concern in addressing this particular intersection. Ward said that he would “continue working with state and county officials until we eliminate the dangers of this intersection.” Ward went on to say, “Bibb County often gets overlooked because it is a rural area but their needs are just as important as any other location in this state.
