REP. CAM WARD ANNOUNCES $3,000 GRANT FOR CREEK VIEW ELEMENTARY SPECIAL NEEDS PROGRAM

Alabaster, Alabama- State Representative Cam Ward announced a grant of $3,000 today for Creek View Elementary School 's special needs program.

The grant will be used to purchase new equipment for the speech therapy provided for students at the school. Ward made the announcement today as he visited with Creek View Elementary Principal Joyce Dixon and Speech Teacher Sandra Liddell. While the equipment and software will be available to many different groups of students at Creek View, Representative Ward was particularly impressed with the opportunities it provided for children with developmental disabilities.

“With 1 in 150 children being diagnosed throughout the United States every year with autism, speech therapy becomes even more critical to their developmental needs,” said Representative Ward.

Representative Ward said “Mrs. Dixon and Mrs. Liddell do a wonderful job promoting the needs of Creek View and are always working to improve the education provided for the kids.”

“I appreciate Representative Ward's friendship to education in Shelby County . He is always responsive to the needs of the teachers and children in our schools“, said Mrs. Dixon.

The grant was from part of the community service grants program appropriated by the Alabama Legislature during the 2006-07 Education Trust Fund budget.
