Shelby County will be well represented in
the upcoming legislative session thanks to several key appointments
made earlier this month in the State House of Representatives.
State Rep. Cam Ward (R-Alabaster) said Shelby County came away from
this month’s organizational session as a “big winner.”
“This is huge because we’ll have a bigger voice in what happens in
the legislature,” he said.
Each member of the county’s legislative delegation was appointed to
at least one major committee, Ward said.
Rep. Mary Sue McClurkin (R-Pelham) was named to the Education Ways
and Means committee, Rep. Mike Hill (R-Columbiana) will serve as
vice chairman of the Banking and Insurance committee and Greg
Canfield (R-Vestavia Hills) was appointed to the General Fund Ways
and Means committee. Ward will serve as a member of the Rules
committee.
Ward said the appointments reflect well on the county’s legislative
delegation, which will have an active role in some key issues when
the next session convenes March 6 in Montgomery.
“This shows that you have a delegation that’s not just sitting
around in the background,” Ward said. |
