ARLINGTON,
VA –
The John McCain Exploratory Committee on Wednesday announced
that State Senator Bradley Byrne (R – Fairhope) and State
Representative Cam Ward (R – Alabaster) will serve as its
legislative chairman and co-chairman in Alabama.
“I believe John McCain’s straight talk and bedrock conservative
principles are exactly what we need at this time in our nation’s
history,” Byrne said. “He is a proven and steadfast leader, and
I am proud to add my name to his long list of supporters.”
Byrne is serving his second term in the Alabama Senate where he sits on
the Finance and Taxation Education, Judiciary, Constitution and
Elections, and Education committees. Prior to joining the
Legislature, Byrne served two terms on the State Board of
Education from 1994 to 2002.
He is a member of Leadership Alabama and a lifetime member of the Alabama
PTA. He also serves on numerous boards and committees whose
focus is improving education. He is employed as an attorney.
Ward, who is also serving his second term in the House, currently works
as the Executive Director of the Industrial Development Board of
Alabaster.
He previously served as Deputy Attorney General in the
Alabama State Auditor’s Office and later worked in the Alabama
Secretary of State’s Office as Confidential Assistant to the
Secretary of State.
From November 1998 to June 2001, he was the District Director
for Congressman Spencer Bachus of Birmingham.
“In my opinion, John McCain is our Party’s best hope for
keeping Ronald Reagan Conservatism in the White House,” Ward
said. “His pro-life record, his pro-gun record and his history
of championing conservative principles put his squarely in the
mainstream of Alabama voters.”
McCain said he appreciated the words of support and looked
forward to working closely with both men as the Alabama
presidential primary nears.
“I am proud to have the support of lawmakers like Cam Ward
and Bradley Byrne, both of whom have reputations for pushing
conservative ideas and reforms in the Alabama Legislature,”
McCain said. “Their trust in me and the things in which we
deeply believe are appreciated.” |
