Museum on Main Street a Must See

Recently, I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the opening of the Between the Fences exhibit, which is sponsored by the Smithsonian Institute, and is currently being hosted by the Town of West Blocton.  As I toured through the Cahaba Lily Center and viewed the different displays, I could not help but think about how great it is to have this going on in a small town right in our own back yard.  For anyone who has not seen this exhibit it is a must see.

Between the Fences is part of a national effort to bring a piece of American history out of Washington and into our communities. The resources on display with this traveling piece of history detail how fences literally have been an integral part of our nation since its founding.  While at first blush this may sound like an odd topic, it is in fact truly fascinating.

This exhibit is part of a larger effort known as the Museum on Main Street, and has been on display in only six towns throughout Alabama over the last twelve months. With the exhibit traveling to just a handful of locations in our state it is a huge honor for the Bibb County community to be home to this museum over the next couple weeks.

Museum on Main Street brings rural Alabamians the opportunity to view, first hand, prestigious Smithsonian exhibitions and top notch educational programs.  It certainly something that everyone in our community should take the opportunity to visit.

Bibb County should be extremely proud of the honor to host this exhibit and I hope we display that pride by turning out to see this wonderful attraction. I promise you will not be disappointed.
