REP. CAM WARD CHOSEN FOR ELECTORAL COLLEGE (BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA)— Representative Cam Ward (R-Alabaster) has been chosen by the Alabama Republican Executive Committee to serve as one of nine electors following this year's general election. Alabama Democrats will likewise choose nine individuals to serve in that capacity.
“I am excited to be chosen by the Alabama Republican Party to cast my electoral vote for Senator John McCain. I supported him early on and have remained committed to him because of his experience, knowledge of the issues and his plan to get our economy back on track,” Rep. Ward said. “I am confident the people of Alabama will choose Senator McCain because he is a known quantity with a proven record of leadership,” he added.
The Electoral College will meet after the November 4 th general election to cast all nine votes from Alabama to the candidate who carries the state with the most popular vote. The Electoral College is composed of 538 electors, with each state having a number of electors equal to the number of its Senators and Representatives in the United States Congress . In Alabama , there are seven Members of Congress and two U.S. Senators, for a total of nine electors.
Since 1964, Alabama has voted Republican for President every four years with the exception of 1976 when Jimmy Carter carried the state against Gerald Ford. “Under the leadership of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, Americans have been led down the primrose path, and Alabama voters will reject the empty rhetoric and broken promises of the Democratic Party this November,” Rep. Ward said.
Rep. Ward represents District 49 in the Alabama House of Representatives which includes parts of Shelby and Bibb County .
