Rep. Cam Ward Announces $14,500 for West Blocton Elementary

(ALABASTER, ALABAMA)— Bibb County State Representative Cam Ward joined officials from Alabama Rural Conservation & Development in announcing grants totaling $16,500 for West Blocton Elementary School tonight.

As part of a mission to bring more technology into the classrooms the faculty and staff of WBES wrote a grant for the purchase of a portable computer lab. The Computer lab On Wheels (COW) can be used in any classroom in the school.

The grant which was coordinated through the Tombigbee Rural Conservation & Development District was used to purchase 12 Compac business notebook computers with 12 compatible software packages and a portable storage cart. An additional grant was secured by Rep. Ward for $2,500 to provide professional development in school technology training.

“West Blocton Elementary has demonstrated once again how important technology can be to the education of our children. I believe this new COW program will take teaching at West Blocton to a whole new level,” said Rep. Ward.

Karen Hubbard the principal for West Blocton Elementary said that WBES established a 21 st Century Learning Team in 2006 with a goal of learning how to better integrate technology into the classroom. “I am very thankful for Rep. Ward and his continued support of schools in Bibb County. This project would not have been possible without his dedication and support,” said Mrs. Hubbard.
