Joint Oversight for Prison
Alabama spends over a quarter of its General Fund Budget on prisons. This dollar figure has risen over the last 10 years by a substantial amount. The Joint Legislative Committee on Prisons was created in 1976 to make a diligent inquiry and full examination of Alabama's present and long term prison needs. The Committee shall file reports of its findings and recommendations to the Alabama Legislature not later than the fifteenth legislative day of each regular session.
