Open Records Task Force

Rep. Cam Ward Chairs Subcommittee for Open Records Task Force

The Open Records Task Force was created by House Joint Resolution 90 in 2005.  This resolution called for the reform of the laws governing access to public records in Alabama.  The task force shall report its findings, conclusions, and recommendations for proposed reform legislation to the Legislature not later than the fifteenth legislative day of the 2007 Regular Session.

Access to public government records is one of the most important issues underlying the trust that citizens have in their government.  As the subcommittee chairman for procedures on the Open Records Task Force, Representative Ward has pledged to hold a series of public hearings to make sure the resulting legislation is one that balances privacy and the right to access public information.

Notice of the meetings held by the Open Records Task Force are posted on the Secretary of State’s web site.

Below are links to the meetings that have been held on open records access so far.  If you would like to contribute any information to me regarding this issue please feel free to submit your comments to me at camjulward@aol.com
